So how was your world book day?

Mine was excellent. In fact, the whole week was amazing. I did an interview, seven school visits involving over 700 children, and a fabulous story-telling afternoon on a barge in Camden, in London!

I read extracts from the first two books in the Monster Doughnuts series, talked about reading and writing, and how to come up with great ideas for monsters. I had an absolute ball!

Then, to finish it off on the perfect note, my daughter came up with an absolutely brilliant idea for a new book! So, I need to get writing…

I can’t say too much at this stage but I’m going to give you a teeny tiny hint as to what might be in this new story. Ready?

They’re big, and scaly, and some breathe fire…

One that will be featuring in my new story will be like no other you’ve ever read about. She’s funny and feisty and fierce. And I can’t wait for you to meet her!

I love the new idea stage of writing a story, when ideas come thick and fast. I don’t know about you but the more ideas I have, and the more I discuss what could happen, the clearer the plot becomes and the quicker I want to start writing. I love giving my characters names straight from the off too.

It gives me a real feel for who they are and what they’re like. Many of the monsters in Monster Doughnuts had funny, ridiculous names so it’s been very interesting to think about a rather different theme for this latest project.

I’m hoping to start writing it in the next week or two so I will keep you posted and possibly even ask for some help as I get further into the story!

I hope you all had a wonderful World Book Day and I hope it’s further ignited that little spark that makes us pick up a book and lose ourselves entirely in a completely different place and time.

More soon!

Gianna
